Transfer 11 Week 5, March 7, 2011

Dear Mom/Family,

Can you believe that it's week four [correction: five] already? Do you know what this means?! My time in Tennessee is running out! However, to every good thing (anything really) there comes a time for it to end, and so it is with my mission.

Just so you know, I'd like to go to Cookeville first, then McMinnville, Franklin, Dickson, and end with Murray, KY, so then we can go to Navuoo. I'd like to do a session as a missionary in the Navuoo Temple, if you wouldn't mind that.

This week on FB I saw some kids from CVJH and I invited them to be my friend and they've accepted. I'm not sure if they remember me or not, but no matter.

This week has been fun. At church we got a referral for someone. I'm not sure if they live on our side or the Elders, but we got one. It was found in the clerk's office. Someone had slid the paper underneath the door. In PEC, the priesthood leaders were laughing about how that's the new way to give referrals to the missionaries. Well, it doesn't really matter how we get referrals, just that we do. And I don't really care who gives us a referral, just that we get them and get more new investigators along the way. That's what we really need. New Investigators.

Transfer 11 Week 4, February 28, 2011

Dear Family,

The Tennessee Nashville Mission is one of the trial missions using Facebook and there's about 70 or so missionaries on it now in the great TN Nashville Mission. I'm telling you all this because I'm one of those missionaries. All I ask is that you use it wisely so I may use it as effectively as I can. Thank you.

Now for the questions mom had:

Since we are going out to pick you up, how much time would you like to spend in your mission area? Are there cities you'd like to revisit? Or are there tourist places you'd really like to visit?
A couple of days, maybe. I dunno, 5/6? I'd like to go to Cookville, revisit my baby area, and perhaps on the way there or coming back visit a member or two in McMinnville. Franklin I'd like to see more of it. Dickson for sure (I want to show you where I got hurt) and I'd also like to go to Paducah (I know it wasn't really my area, but it was my zone for 4 and 1/2 months).

We are running around the ideas of going to Uncle Brent's, Nauvoo, Mt. Rushmore, and Yellowstone. However, we don't have to do all of those. We could easily do Yellowstone on a different trip since it's only a day's drive away. We could also see if the Whitehead's would like to meet us in Nauvoo. I would like to try to get to Mt. Rushmore because I don't know that we'd want to make a trip just to Mt. Rushmore. So let me know what you think you'd like to do so I can plan.
Okay, I like those, in fact I'd like to see them, we can definitely do those.

And what about the bike?
It'd be cheaper to send the bike home through the mail (UPS) than to drive it home.

And how's the work going in Franklin? Are things picking up? Are you enjoying your new companion? Are you in a good ward?
The work in Franklin is good. Slightly, things are moving faster. One of the investigators came to church and is still wanting to be baptized, she just has to work a few things out before then. Yes, Sister Turner is awesome!!!!!!! She's been out two transfers less than I have. She has an awesome testimony. The Carton Ward is good. They're so willing to help us out. They'd really like to feed us, but with the rules changing, it's a little slow with the transition.

Okay, now for this week:

We had zone conference and as always it was awesome. Only thing I didn't like about it is the fact the President reminded me that this was my last zone conference. I knew that in the back of my mind, but I didn't want to expect it, but had to when Pres. said the truth.

Well, I gotta run. I still haven't written Pres. yet so I gotta do that.

Transfer 11 Week 3, February 21, 2011

Dear Mom/Family,

First off, here are the questions Mummy asked:

How are things going?
Things are going well, we need more people in our teaching pool, but that's been one consistent thing every area I've been in has needed, so nothing's new there.

What's it like living in a member's home?
Interesting. Definitely, interesting. We don't have to buy our groceries, Sister Ross will do that, just so things aren't so crowded. That's nice, not having to worry about groceries. Though there are times where you just want your own place.

Any prospects added to your teaching pool?
We got two referrals this week. One was kind of a joke. His friends must have put his name in the system, and the other referral seems more interested, even though he bonked the appointment we had set up the day before. Oh, well . . . .

What's the new District like? Good Elders to work with?
The Columbia District is awesome! There's like 4 sets of Elders and 1 set of sisters. I've never been in a district in the mission field where the companionships of Elders were that high! Two of those comps. have 3 Elders! So we are really out numbered! It's fun though. I've served in the same district with our district leader before. In fact, he came out with me. I also sat on the second plane ride (from Memphis to Nashville—the one that was delayed like 2 1/2 hrs) with him. His name . . . Elder Wells.

What do you think of Franklin? Is it a nice place?
It is a nice place, it's really nice. Sometimes it's scary because of how nice it is. Though I have seen some projects in Franklin, I never really thought I would see those here. Well, I guess every place has projects. The members here are cool, and want to help in any way they can.

Did you already get the talk letter I sent you last week?
Yes, I did. I got it at transfers. Thanks!

We got the two boxes you shipped from Murray.
Great! I've sent one home today, and it's gonna have one of my labels on it and on the label from UPS it'll say Heather Green. She was Sister Turner's previous companion.

There are times when I just want to stop and look around at this place and Mondays are pretty busy to do just that. So I think we're gonna take "a day off" and just walk around downtown, so we're gonna do that next Monday. I don't really know what to say. Oh! I'll be sending home my camera's memory card. I got a new one today.

Transfer 11 Week 2, February 14, 2011

Dear Family,

Sorry I wasn't able to write last week.

Snow.

That's all I gotta say is snow. Due to it snowing, cars were parked and we didn't want to walk to the library and email, so we stayed at the apartment and cleaned/packed.

So, news about this transfer. I'm now in Franklin, TN. New address is: 494 Royal Crossing, Franklin, TN 37064 (we live with members). My new companion is Sister Turner. She's been out two transfers less than I have, so she has about six more months to her mission. She's from St. George, UT, and is an awesome missionary. Work in Franklin is a little harder than the other areas I've been in but, no matter, we shall make it work!

Sister Koford is training; her trainee is Sister Valentine, so I guess that makes me a mission aunt.

Sister Christensen called on Wednesday or Thursday and asked if I would like you to come and pick me up. I thought for a second and thought: "Hey, why not? It wouldn't hurt." (I've been trying not to think about it since I found out. I don't want to get trunky before the second of May, which I can then get trunky at 9:31 p.m. I don't know what else to say . . . . .

Oh! I know! Happy Single Awareness Day! Which, I suppose is also known as Valentine’s day.

Btw, did y'all get my Valentines that I sent awhile back?

I'll hear from y'all soon!

love

Transfer 10 Week 6, January 31, 2011

Dear Family,

It's the last week of the transfer—so any feelings about whether you are staying or going? You've been in Murray for awhile, but there's nothing to say you couldn't stay longer! I guess you'll find out next week.
It’s the last week of the transfer and I don't know what's going to happen at all. Murray hasn't seen any baptisms for a while now. Last one was Charles in December, so missionaries might be taken out, but I don't know. To be honest, I don't want to stay in Murray. Its an okay place, but I can't see myself here for seven and a half months, that would just be torture. Yes, President might, might transfer me out for my last transfer, but it doesn't make sense to get to know a ward that you'd only be in for six weeks.

So how are you doing and how are things going in the field?
To be perfectly honest, I don't know how I'm doing. It's kinda a blah feeling. It could be because of the area. I dunno. The field is good. We have a few select people who are just awesome. They make it worth everything. Though, I hear some sad news, Sara Edmunds, the last baptism I had in McMinnville has gone less active.

I heard on the news this morning that things are really cold and windy in the Illinois and Ohio areas. Is the cold affecting you a lot too?
Somewhat, it's cold so no one really wants to talk with us, but some let us in because it is so cold.

How's the teaching going?
Hard. We have to find some more people to teach. Some of the ones we have now just aren’t progressing and so we are going to drop them. We don't need to teach them if they aren't willing to change.

Any solid investigators shaping up?
Blair, she's our golden girl. Hopefully we'll be able to see her tonight and set a date with her. (Fingers crossed.)

Any dates set?
Nope, but hopefully Blair!

So from Thursday to Saturday we had specialized trainings in Clarksville. We got to stay with the traveling sisters and Hopkinsville sisters (in Hopkinsville, KY). It was a lot of fun. Brother Larson said that President would have to send home six missionaries after those three days. Well, he's wrong we were perfectly good.

Well I gotta write grandma so I'll close this email.
